 1. Undercoat your model with a black primer. Then take some GW Boltgun metal and using a flat chisel brush drybrush the colour over all the metal parts of the figure. Then using a brighter silver drybrush over the more raised areas of metal to highlight them. You can finish the metal off by washing over it in GW Badab Black to give extra depth to the model. |
 2. Using a size 2 brush base coat the areas of flesh and cloth with the colours you want to use. We’ve used Vallejo Shadows flesh, Vallejo Black red and Vallejo US Field Drab. |
 3. Using the same brush base coat the wood and leather areas. We’ve used Vallejo Splinter blotches II for the wood and Vallejo Germ Camo Black Brown for the leather. |
 4. Using the same brush Base coat the hair and brass areas. We’ve used Vallejo Dark grey and Vallejo Brass. You can wash over the brass areas with GW Devlan mud for added depth. |
 5. Using the same brush base coat the shield in a design you’ve chosen. We’ve used Vallejo Golden yellow and Vallejo German Dark Green. |
 6. Using a smaller 2/0 or 3/0 brush highlight the flesh and cloth areas. Leave the base coat showing in the creases of and folds of the skin and cloth. We’ve used Vallejo Flesh base, Vallejo Red (033) and Vallejo Green ochre. |
 7. Using the same brush highlight the wood grain and leather. Use natural wavy strokes to create a good wood grain effect. We’ve used Vallejo Beige brown for the wood and Vallejo Leather belt for the leather. |
 8. Using the same brush highlight the shield using long thin strokes. We’ve used Vallejo Light Yellow and Vallejo Russian uniform WWII. |
 9. Using a 3/0 or 4/0 size brush highlight the flesh and cloth again. This time leave some of the first highlight showing and pick out the most raised areas of skin and cloth. We’ve used Vallejo Flat Flesh, Vallejo Red (029) and Vallejo Buff. |
 10. Using the same brush highlight the hair and leather. Use thin strokes on the hair for a natural look. We’ve used Vallejo London grey and Vallejo New wood. |
 11. Using a 4/0 or 5/0 size brush highlight the hair and put in the eyes with two small dots leaving black for the pupil. You can also add a black dot in if you make any mistakes. We’ve used Vallejo light grey for the hair and Vallejo offwhite for the eyes. |
 12. Now you can base your miniature. We applied a layer of PVA glue to the base and dipped it into fine brown ballast. When this is dry apply a dry brush of sand. Touch up the edges of the base with black and finally apply 1 or 2 clumps of grass as appropriate. We recommend that you give the figure a coat of gloss varnish followed by a matt varnish over the top once this has dried. We use Vallejo Gloss spray varnish and Either Army painter matt varnish or Testors dulcote in spray form. |
